The Council has adopted a responsible, responsive, future focused 2017 budget. Cam fought to include significant funding for community and health-based initiatives to prevent violence, better and more targeted support through a new small business office, funding for affordable housing, growing the green business matching grant program, funding for the Clean Energy Partnership and other clean energy programs, capital funding for new bikeways and sidewalks, and much more.
He played a part in several amendments that made the budget even better, and that responded to related issues that were raised by the public. These included amendments to give more funding to domestic abuse prevention and a hospital violence prevention initiative, a motion directing staff to share more information about the true costs of the Vikings stadium, and a motion to explore divesting from financial institutions that have a stake in fossil fuel extraction.
